Synergy is a Bacha-Zouk Retreat that is an unparalleled dance experience set against the stunning backdrop of Paphos, Cyprus. This immersive four-day event is designed for dance enthusiasts of all levels to explore and begin to master the captivating worlds of Brazillian Zouk and Sensual Bachata. Whether you are a beginner taking your first steps or an experienced dancer looking to refine your skills, Synergy offers something special for everyone.

What is Bacha-Zouk?

Bacha zouk is a fusion dance genre that blends the sensual and rhythmic elements of Bachata with the flowing, smooth movements of Brazilian Zouk. Originating from Latin America and the Caribbean, Bachata provides the foundational steps and close partner connection, while Zouk, a dance style from Brazil, contributes its characteristic body waves, fluidity, and intricate turn patterns. This combination creates a dynamic and visually captivating dance that emphasizes musicality, connection, and expressive movement. Bacha zouk is becoming popular in social dance communities worldwide, celebrated for its versatility and emotive style.

Synergy will bring you a rich tapestry of both bachata and zouk techniques in their purest form before using those techniques in synergy to create what is now known as bacha-zouk.

The Athena Beach Hotel

This hotel is a four star, beachfront hotel in Kato Paphos within easy walking distance from the picturesque harbour, the archaeological sites, the shops and the nightlife. A bus stop is just outside the hotel and taxis are always available. Parking in the hotel car park is free for guests. The resort is situated 15 km away from the Paphos International Airport and 140 km from Larnaca International Airport. All the rooms feature spacious balconies offering beautiful views of the hotel’s tranquil gardens or of the Mediterranean sea, as well as luxury bathrooms featuring bath tub, rain shower and flexible hose shower, Simmons® Luxury Beds and floor to ceiling windows. Room facilities include among others air conditioning and heating, flat screen LCD satellite TV (26 inch in land view rooms and 32 inch in all other rooms) and radio, fridge, mini bar, hairdryer, scales, make-up/shaving mirror, ironing facilities, safety deposit box as well as tea and coffee making facilities. The leisure facilities of this hotel include 3 freshwater swimming and 2 paddling pools, a waterslide, indoor pool (heated during the periods 1st November - 31st March), indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, floodlit tennis courts, a 24-rink indoor and outdoor Bowls Green facilities, mini golf and a children’s playground with Kids Club. In the hotel’s Elixir Spa there is a heated pool, a sauna, a steam bath, a fully equipped gym and a hairdressing salon. You can also choose from a good choice of professional massages and facial and body therapies, aromatherapy and other treatments are also available.

Nina and Harry have been teaching Brazilian Zouk for over two years, and have been studying the dance since 2018 with some of the world's best Zouk artists. Their teaching focuses on comfort and precision, and they are passionate about exploring musicality within their own dance.

Besides Brazilian Zouk, they also have knowledge of other movement disciplines, which gives them a broad perspective on proprioception and partner work. Nina started with Modern Jazz as a child, then moved on to Salsa, Bachata, Tango, Lindy Hop, and of course Brazilian Zouk. Harry trained in karate and capoeira for years before embracing Brazilian Zouk, Tango, and Bachata.

Barry and Ella are a dynamic in influential dance duo renowned in numerous dance circles and the growing Bacha-Zouk community. Their partnership blends Barry's fluidity and musicality with Ella's grace and precision, creating a captivating and harmonious dance experience. Together, they have performed and taught at numerous dance festivals and congresses, showcasing their innovative choreography and deep connection on the dance floor.

With a shared passion for Bacha-Zouk, Barry, who has multiple years of zouk experience and Ella, who has spent years studying bachata, have dedicated themselves to teaching and promoting this unique new dance style. Their workshops are highly sought after, known for their engaging and comprehensive approach that caters to dancers of all levels. Barry and Ella's collaborative spirit and mutual respect are evident in their seamless performances and effective teaching methods, making them beloved figures in the dance community,

Cole and Nadina have been dancing together for over a year, teaching Bachata nationally and more recently internationally. Their style is a Sensual/Fusion mix with Zouky elements, which reflects great attention to the softness of the motions without forgetting the dynamical aspects.

They learnt respectively in China and Italy, where they trained regularly, and took part in intensive boot camps and performance trainings.

They currently travel around the country teaching and performing, and they have their advanced performance team which they travel with to perform at different events

Together, Sophara and Edon bring their diverse dance backgrounds to create a unique and enjoyable learning experience.

Shophara has been dancing since the age of 3, studying modern Jazz before finding heels at 17 and later venturing into partner dancing with salsa and bachata. Recently, Sophara has added zouk to her repertoire, enjoying the creativity of blending bachata and zouk into bacha-zouk.

Edo has many years of experience in bachata, with a solid foundation in the dance. Over the past year, he has also explored zouk, adding a new dimension to his dance style.

Their combined expertise in bachata and zouk offers a fresh perspective that is accessible to all dance enthusiasts.

Nick Bazelis is a Bachata/Kizomba dancer and Artist known for his unique style and musicality. With a background starting from learning to play the drums at 8 years old, together with his love for Hip Hop, Breakdance, Salsa, Kizomba and Bachata he has taught at many festivals all over the world and has received recognition for his passion for dance and his high attention to detail.

Nick's work reflects a passion for music and dance, making him a dynamic force in the dance community, knowing that every dance will be a story told by his feeling of the music and rhythm expressing every step and movement that you accompany him on this dance journey.
